So as I said, Auckland was good.

The day started with me waking up at a quater past five. Believe it or not, that is actually a time. After this very early start, I began my journey by flying up to Auckland, where I caught a taxi to the embassy. Then, after waiting for an hour, i proceeded to go through security. An hour after that, I got my interview- which last about 4minutes. I then has the afternoon to kill, so I had some lunch and walked around the city, seeing such famous sights as - 'Sky City', and 'The Harbour'. Then it was time to go home.

On the way home the plane was grounded in Wellington. A problem with the skid brakes. That made me feel very comfortable, concidering we'd landed not a few minutes before...

I finally made it home at nine thirty after a very long day.

But I got my Visa. So yay.

-----

I am also feeling very tired at the moment. Today I will spen thirteen hours working at NP.

Too much? Without a doubt.

I am tired of working with computers, especially concidering I am starting to get pain in my right hand fingers from typing/clicking....

I want to sleep.

-----

I was reading some Calvin & Hobbes cartoons wuotes the other day. Here are some now...

"I'm a simple man, Hobbes."
"You?? Yesterday you wanted a nuclear powered car that could turn into a jet with laser-guided heat-seeking missiles!"
"I'm a simple man with complex tastes."

"The world isn't fair, Calvin."
"I know Dad, but why isn't it ever unfair in my favour?"

"Somewhere in communist Russia I'll bet there's a little boy who has never known anything but CENSORSHIP and OPPRESSION. But maybe he's heard about AMERICA, and he dreams of living in this land of FREEDOM and OPPORTUNITY! Someday, I'd like to meet that little boy... AND TELL HIM THE AWFUL TRUTH ABOUT THIS PLACE!!"
"Calvin, be quiet and eat the stupid lima beans."

Visa

Auckland was good.

My visa application was accepted, and it then arrived this morning. Talk about efficient!

Sometimes...

...I even amaze myself :-)

Was rummaging through some old email and found the best email I've ever written... I wrote it to a friend last year after just buying my bike (i was pretty stoked with myself!)

I will share it with you now. Perhaps I had too much time on my hands...perhaps...

-----

I thought this time,
I'd do it in rhyme!
Alliteration is boring,
it left me snoring!

So, How are you?
How was your day?
Staying up past curfew?
I'm now in the bay.
It is rather nice- no sign of ice!

You'll never guess what I just bought,
It was made in Japan,
and has been import[ed].

It's got two wheels,
it was quiet a steal,
with a helmet and gloves,
no better deal!

It replaces my car,
It it sure is quiet nifty!
It will take me quiet far,
It's a motorbike!- Suzuki, GN 250.

How is your family,
how are your friends,
I don't know about you,
but I don't want the holidays to end.

I've caught up on some reading,
I've been to the gym,
I don't know where this is leading,
but I've done some shoppin'

I get back on Monday,
have a good holiday,
get some R&R and, oh, by the way...

You missed a great formal,
it was rather good,
The bands were the best,
and so was the food!
you'll have to come next year,
so start saving now,
And on that note I'll love & leave you,
ciao!

Jay :-)

PS, can't you just say.....
...that this email is great!

leaves others to dust!
The best ever to date,
replying is a must!

No. 100?

According to blogger, this is post number 100. How about that...

-----

This past week has been rather good. I've spent alot of it working.

Last night I went out to the clubs for the first time in ever and had a good time. So that's all nice.

-----

In three weeks from yesterday I will be on the plane to America. Although I think I'm more nervous about going to Auckland on tuesday than the trip itself!

-----

And finally, Little Britain is one of the funniest shows on TV. Watch it. Now.

And here are some lines from it...

"Dust. Anybody? No? High in fat, low in fat? Dust. Anybody? No? Dust. Anybody? No? Dust. Anybody? No? Dust. Anybody? No? Dust. Anybody? No? Dust. It's actually very low in fat. You can have as much dust as you like. "

"When people in Britain want to buy a pet, they go to a pet shop. If they want to buy a pet shop, they go to a pet shop shop. If they want to buy a pet shop shop, well, they're just being silly. "

"I leave ye with a riddle! I am hard yet soft, I am coloured yet clear, I am fruity and sweet, I am jelly....What am I?!"
"Erm...jelly..."
"Muse upon it, thy father, I shall return!"
"It's...jelly though, isn't it?"
"Yheeees!"

A bird

Here is a bird I saw walking into town... the quality wasn't that great (it flew away after I only took one picture!), so I've played around with it a bit...

...sleep...

Wow. I am so immensly tired I think my head is going to fall into the keyboard

'aetgfaldsh, rayyf' is what would come up on the screen as my forehead made contact with the keys.

-----

At the moment I'm at work.

-----

The past couple of weeks have ben rather uneventful with regard to how I've been spending my time.

Take yesterday for example.

After waking up at about 9 to let in the electricians to fix the dishwasher I went back to bed.

It was 3:00pm before I rose again.

Now I must be honest here- I had every intention of doing productive things. I was going to go to the gym. I was going to practice guitar. Start packing for the states, go for a walk, these were all on the list of things I should do. But no. I rested my eyes, and the next thing I know I was sleeping.

Enough was enough, I thought. Early to bed early to rise. So I decided to go to sleep at 10pm. A nice early night. But once again my plans were foiled (by me). I couldn't get to sleep.

So I ended up watcing TV and listening to music to 2am (in bed all the while).

-----

A few weeks ago I got my bike back. yay! It's all repaired. I have been very careful riding it again. Basicaly, this means that I only ride it when the sun is shining and there is no ice on the roads.

As it is the middle of winter, this is hardley ever.

But still, yay!

-----

Another thing (besides sleeping) that I have been doing to pass the time is to get clued up on the world around me.

Things like-

  • Journalism and the role it plays in society
  • Democrocy,
  • USA's foreign involvement,
  • Oil and the impacts it has had and will have in society,
  • Global poverty and debt.
To that end, I highly reccomend the film "The end of suburbia". It descibes the effect that cheap oil has had on the world (in particular the States) as well as effect oil will have when it starts becoming more expensive.

The basic argument is this...

...in the past there have been huge supplies and a smallish demand (relative to the supply), resulting in cheap oil (supply = demand, but only at low prices). As supplies start to shrink (as there is only so much oil in the world) and demand grows (read: china, india) the price of oil is going to climb while the quantity consumed declines (supply = demand, but only at high prices).

'So oil is a bit more expensive', you say, 'so what?'

The problem comes in when we think of all the uses oil has in our society. Not only is it turned into petrol for transport, but it is also essential in the production of foods (through fertilizer and the mechanical energy need to till soil, plant seeds etc.), it is needed in the production of pharmecuticals, plastics, enegy generation for heating... the list goes on.

Some people predict oil could reach as high as US$ 200! At the moment it is about $US 60. At these higher prices alot of things just become too expensive to make, process, do.

It's not just a question of using the car a bit less, but effects nearly every aspect of our modern society... The scary thing is it's not a matter of if this oil crisis is going to happen, but when. And we will only know it's happening in retrospect...

Anyway, see the movie.

With exams and all (not too mention that I'm lazy) I havn't been feeling like this whole posting thing...

-----

I recieved my exam results... As luck would have it, I passed everything, although with one paper it was mighty close...

So where does this leave me?

Well, it means that the next thing I can focus on is preparing for my trip.

On the 26th I'm going to fly up to Auckland for the day and go to the American Consulate for an interview to get my visa, so that is a step in the right direction...

-----

After I finished my exams I moved my TV back into my room. As such, I have taken to watching BBC World until my eyelids collapse. I am tired.

The plus side of all this is that the news programme is actually good. At the same time another chanell plays 'FOX NEWS'. It's amusing(or scary- I'm not sure which) to see the diferences between the two.

It seems to me that the british take a much more objective vewpoint on things, where as the FOX newsteem would quiet happily discuss their 4th of July plans intermixed with the latest news from the middle east.

-----

The other day I went to watch 'The War of The Worlds'.

I relly enjoyed it. After I watched it I read some of the reviews on the Internet. While many have said it was good, I can appreciate the feeling of those who didn't know the ending.

It is also worth puting the story in context regarding when it was written which was is 1898 and the themes of colanization, and the paralells betwen the martians and the British Empire...

-----

If you have a few minutes to spare, I recommend downloading a program from google called "google earth" - http://www.earth.google.com. It is the natural extention of google maps and is lots and lots and lots of fun...
