I'd like to say that last weeks post was an ironic sort of tongue in cheek post, symbolizing the futility of blogging, or the impersonal style of the internet, or maybe the plethora of choices we all face each and every day. Something like that. Something deep. Meaningful.
That's what I'd like to say.
In truth I was feeling apathetic and lazy...
...But don't worry, this weeks post promises to be a good one ;-)
-----
So, as far as I can figure,
June the 1st was the official start of winter. Either that or May the 21st.
Whichever it is, it still remains that it's
now it is
officially winter.
What does that mean?It means that I will be very
cold. All those who know me can expect
lots of complaining.
You have been warned...
And speaking of winter, yesterday it
snowed for the first time this season.
-----
I'd now like to dedicate the next section of the post to a complaint. From me.
My first exam is
ten days away. It is a
dark black storm cloud on the horizon, closing in fast. I can
hear the thunder. As such, I am spending more and more time studying for it.
This is my
third year at that institute of learning known as the
University of Otago. It has taken me three long years but finally I have achieved it. I have found the
perfect spot for studying.
And I will share with you all out there in internet land where it is. On the one condition that you don't tell anybody, otherwise, you will be killed. I'm serious. Shot. Or drowned. Or, I dunno, something really painful. So, if you think you are up to the challenge of
not sharing the location of the
perfect spot with anyone, read on. Otherwise, stop reading, close the browser window, and go read a book or something...
Here it is. The
perfect studying spot.
It is located on the first floor of central library. The end that's facing the Burns lecture theatre. Go
towards the windows by Albany street. DO NOT sit on that bench. Instead there are a collection of desks with dividers designed for four people. Choose one. But choose the right one. The one where I am sitting...
And here is why it is
perfect (Measured in JP's, or James Points)...
The Plus Side...
- Unlike other locations, there is minimal foot traffic going past. +10 JP
- It has no distracting views out onto the outside world. + 15 JP
- It is close to the bathrooms +5 JP
- There aren't too many stairs to climb to get to it+10JP
- There is no sharing of desk space + 15JP
- It is close to drinking fountain +10JP
Grand Total...
65 James Points. Clearly that is a
very high number. But like most things in life, there is one problem. A downside.
A negative.
It seems that I'm not the first to feel the
storm cloud of exams. It also seems that I am not the first to use the
JP system to choose a place to study...
...Every single time I go to the library my spot is taken. Every single time. Sometimes people just leave their books.
BOOKS, I say, BOOKS!! They aren't even studying. They are going to lectures or having coffee, or having fun, probably I bet. It just makes mad. Oh, so mad.
I guess the only thing for me to do is arrive at the library
earlier, so I can leave my studying materials while I go and do things that aren't studying.
Mwhahahaha...-----
And the quotes for today, centered around learning and education and whatnot. It seems appropriate......
Live as if you were to die tomorrow. Learn as if you were to live forever.

I am always ready to learn, but I do not always like being taught.

I have never let my schooling interfere with my education
